Theme Cosmos

Theme Cosmos is a front-end UI library that helps you build powerful case management applications in compliance with Pega Platform best practices and guidelines. The system provides a consistent library of components that form the entire user experience. It can be used to create full-fledged case management applications.

The new applications can use the Theme Cosmos to build applications. Any applications updating to the latest version of theme Cosmos application will have the previous ruleset version until updated manually. The updated applications will have some development effort involved like updating the style and CSS.

Building new applications using 8.6 lets one choose between Theme Cosmos, Cosmos React, and a traditional UI Kit application. Theme Cosmos applications can use hybrid mode. Hybrid mode embeds certain Cosmos React UI capabilities into the existing application based on Theme Cosmos with section-based UI. The mixed architecture of the hybrid mode helps you prepare your application for future changes.

Latest features of Theme Cosmos include –

  • Searched results are shown on a new tab without losing the context.
  • Supports multiple sessions in browser tabs without loosing data due to tab refresh
  • Improved preview panel with fixed header and navigation through tabs
  • Collapsible summary panel gives more space for the work area

Cosmos React

Creating new applications has now an option to create from ‘Cosmo React’ as a built on application. By selecting this option we are creating the application with react based UI. React based UI offers low code capabilities with run-time environment that supports the latest open-source technologies and frameworks and helps screens render in their native technology with more dynamic updates and responsiveness. The React based UI is built using the open standards such as ReactJS, Redux and ES6. It includes the Cosmos design system, React based component library for Cosmos system, Constellation client engine (which mediates between the UI components and the DX API), DX API v2, public Java script API for the constellation client engine, as well includes the Application authoring done through App studio.

Cosmos React architecture is in the evolving stage and is best suited to early adopters. It does not support all Pega Platform features. With Cosmos react one can build an application with Case types, data types, Configure UI (added feature - real time preview of view being built / designed is available), define Personas and portals.

Being as evolving framework, Cosmos react has few limitations - it is recommended for applications being built from scratch, supports only English language (localization would be supported in future releases), does not support automatic upgrade of application and hence needs migration.
Cosmos react offers improved performance, allows access to Portals, Landing pages, case pages in an application via semantic URLs.
