Designate Primary Fields

Primary Fields are the fields that are the most relevant to a Case Type. Primary Fields are automatically displayed on Constellation's Create, Edit, and Details Views.

As a Pega Business Architect, identifying the information that is most important to Case resolution and designating those fields as Primary saves both time and effort as it relates to UI Configuration.

In this topic, you explore how Primary Fields flow from the Application Data Model, through the Case Type Data Model, into Application Views.

Designating Primary Fields for a data object

Both the Data Model of the Application and the Data Model of the Case Type can designate fields as Primary Fields.

In the Application Data Model, Primary Fields are designated inside the data object.

In the following image, the GoGoRoad Application's Service Address data object has the City, State, and Street fields designated as Primary:

As a result of the Primary designation, the City, State, and Street fields automatically show up on the Details View for the Service Address data object.

The Primary Fields are also automatically included in the Create and Edit Views that are associated with the data object.

Primary Fields in the Case Type Data Model

Primary Fields can also be designated in the Case Type Data Model.

In the following image, the Assistance Request Case Type Data Model's Service address (AR), Service type, and Vehicle information (AR) fields are designated as Primary. Service address (AR) and Vehicle information (AR) are both fields that referenced the Service address and Vehicle information data objects, respectively, in the GoGoRoad Application Data Model.

As seen the in the following image, when a field in a Case Type is designated as Primary, for example the Service address (AR) field, the fields designated as Primary in the related data object flow through to the Views of the Case Type that include Primary Fields.

Note: The Case Type Data Model automatically designates the Label and Description fields as Primary Fields by default. Removing the Primary designation from these fields will remove them from the Case Type's Details, Create, and Edit Views.

Primary Fields in the Web Portal

Designating fields as Primary and including them in Constellation Views like the Details View ensures that the most relevant Case information is always readily available to Case participants, facilitating faster and more efficient Case resolution.
